Mother’s Day weekend

We were able to celebrate Mother’s Day all weekend! It was so great getting to see all of the special ladies in our life this weekend. We weren’t able to do much for them, but we hope they all know how much they mean to us.

I often thought about a very special woman in Korea. I am forever grateful to her for the choice she chose to give life to our son. Words can never thank her. She is special to our family!

On Friday night we had Nanny & Granpappy over for dinner. We grilled chicken, had green beans, roasted potatoes, & for dessert we had angel food cake with strawberries. It was so yummy! After dinner & dessert we went outside to let Samuel play. He really wanted to show them how fast he could ride his bike. 🙂 We had a lot of fun.

Then on Saturday we went to Mimi & Pop-pop’s house to celebrate! We had grilled chicken & veggies. It was so good! We had angel food cake & strawberries for dessert. 🙂 There’s a trend here. 🙂 Again it was great seeing & spending time with family. Samuel was able to play with his cousins on my side of the family. They played inside & outside for a little while. Outside they blew bubbles & played basketball. Of course we had a lot of fun!

Bill kept asking what I wanted for Mother’s Day, but couldn’t think of what I would like. I never have a pedicure or manicure done. It’s just not something that is in our budget. So, I thought that would be nice. Saturday evening my best friend, Beth, & I went to have a manicure & pedicure. It was so relaxing & fun! We had to wait a while, so we were able to talk & sit in the massage chair with our feet in the water. It was nice not having a little someone (or 4 🙂 ) needing something or asking a hundred questions. So we did that on Saturday night. Then on Sunday morning Bill cooked me breakfast & then we headed to church. We went to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. Yum! Samuel loves the queso dip! All mother’s got half off their meal & received a rose. It was very sweet! After lunch we had a family nap. That was great!

Then on Sunday evening we went to Daniel & Anna’s house to celebrate Mother’s Day with my mom. We had Russian chicken, roasted asparagus, salad, creamed potatoes, & then for dessert we again had angel food cake & strawberries! 🙂  The food was super yummy! After dinner we all went outside & watched the kiddos play. Well, some of the older kids played too! 😉 Right Gennie & Daniel? 🙂  Overall this weekend was great! We enjoyed our time with family & are thankful for each & every one, including the family we didn’t see. We are definitely blessed!

Pop-pop’s birthday

May 5th was Pop-pop’s birthday! We didn’t get to see Pop-pop on his birthday, but wanted to put a special blog just for him. 🙂  We were able to see him the following weekend, Mother’s Day weekend. We love you Pop-pop & hope you had a great birthday! Samuel loves playing & having fun with you!

COC!

On May 8th we had an appointment at USCIS to finally receive Samuel’s Certificate of Citizenship. This was the very last & final piece of paper that we needed to complete all of his paperwork. We could have applied for this earlier, but put it off for financial reasons. We had to pay money for a piece of paper that stated he was a citizen. The funny thing is, it states he became a citizen on 7-26-11. That’s 9 months after he came home. The day his adoption was finalized. So, he’s technically been a citizen since his adoption was finalized, but we had to pay money to get the piece of paper that said he was a citizen! 🙂

Since we have been waiting over a year for our Japan adoption, our fingerprints were due to expire in June. So, we decided we would try to get our fingerprints retaken & pick up Samuel’s COC the same day. Thankfully we were able to do just that! We went a little early & had our fingerprints retaken, then picked up Samuel’s COC. I’m so glad we didn’t have to wait through the ceremony. While it would have been cool to see it & go through it, it also would have been torture for Samuel. He was acting crazy & was just done. They don’t play & are very serious at USCIS! We of course had to get some photos! I had to ask permission first & we had to wait a few minutes for the guard to get authorization. They let us take some pictures thankfully! 🙂

After we left USCIS we went to Cinnabon for a special treat. Actually last week was nurses week & they were giving free cinnabons to nurses. 🙂 So, we enjoyed my free cinnabon as a treat for his COC. We did go to dinner later that night to celebrate too. They were both yummy treats & we enjoyed celebrating our sweet boy!
